for the longest time i have had this spooky edition of sparklette.net sitting on my computer. many of you would have seen it already if you had been following this blog since last halloween. i made it just for fun :D
anyways, rather than let it go to waste, i made it into an actual usable theme for this blog. notice 2 new shiny buttons on the top right hand corner? they allow you to turn on/off the lights on this page and switch between the 2 design styles! (feed readers and email subscribers, you would have to come to sparklette.net to see this.)
let it be night!
let there be light!
you like? it involved quite a fair bit of hard work as i had to create 2 separate sets of images and stylesheets to achieve this effect. but who knows, if i’m hardworking enough i might just make a snowy white one for christmas!
let me know which is your favorite! if you’re fascinated, you can view many more interesting style switchers on smashing magazine.

Woah. Sensitive much? She’s being creative and doing something nice here. It’s amusing how some people simply go entirely off topic and refuse to see what the author intends the readers to see.

Hi Veron,
Great idea….if you’re feeling blues…go to the bright “happy” version, and if you’re feeling all sunshines….go for the “dark” version ??
Hahahaha…..but somehow I still prefer the pinkish one….
I think I better not get in the religious portion of the discussion…..politics and religious talks can get pretty serious…..and sometimes messy ??
But back to the scientific part….its possible to make rain out of clouds now and some are talking about “controlling” hurricanes……no….I have not read too many thrillers…the science is out there….for the Good of mankind until someone comes along and mess it up somehow…somewhere….sometimes….
sigh….the cycle of life….

Hey Veron!
I loved what you have done.. Though I like the lights off effect nothing beats the real one. But thanks for giving us a choice. You are talented! =) View all comments by Shar

Nice indeed! Definitely alot of scripting involved but much appreciated by all the readers in this blog :)
It kinda reminds me of the Google page, how they change the theme to match different seasons, festivities etc.
For the night Halloween theme, could you have the mist floating across the screen with bats flying instead of the maple leaves? View all comments by Edmund Ng

Good work. I like the lights off effect if I don’t have to read from it. The lights-on version would be easier for my eyest to read. :) View all comments by py

XWings: Haha there goes the “is it purple or pink” debate again. This blog is purple — my favorite color! I prefer this purple version too. The night version is a tad gloomy.
Shar: Thanks! I like to offer options. This is a neat feature that clients love when I design websites for them.
Len: Yay!
wenn: One more vote for the nightfall version!
Edmund Ng: Hey, that’s an excellent suggestion! I was playing with the idea of having lightning flashes. The floating mist didn’t come to mind but I love it!
py: Hehe I find that I have to toggle the brightness of one of my computers to view the night version correctly.
wenxiu: It just takes time and hard work, but thank you! View all comments by Veron

Morning Veron,
Somehow the layout of the whole blog gives you a feeling its more pinkish than purple……but then if you like purple more than pink, you will tend to “see” the purple and “ignore” the pink….human nature I guess…
: )

Haha that’s a great idea! Maybe I’ll combine that with the floating mist that someone else suggested :) View all comments by Veron
